Rhoneblut: What comes to mind spontaneously when you hear “Swiss wine”?
CZ: For me, they are not necessarily among the top wines. However, I have drunk one or the other, which I found quite good. What I read the other day on the Internet: The vineyards are very small compared to those of other wine-producing countries, but due to favorable locations, there is no lack of quality at all.
RB: And with the term “Valais wines”?
CZ: Since I don’t drink wine regularly, I lack the references to make a distinction between Valais wine and wines from the rest of Switzerland.
RB: And to “Albert Mathier & Söhne AG”?
CZ: I didn’t even know the producer until recently, I came across his website more by chance – while surfing.
RB: Please tell us about your wine highlight of the last twelve months, a special moment of pleasure with a Mathier wine.
CZ: I ordered two bottles of Vinum Lignum online. I hope these will be my wine highlight of the year 😉
RB: Can you remember when, how and where you got a taste for wine?
CZ: That was during my training, when I was about 16. My boss at the time owned a winery in Portugal and insisted that I taste one of his products with him every now and then.
RB: And what if it’s not wine?
CZ: Then it’s a cool Swiss beer.
RB: What is your personal top 5 list of wines? You do not have to limit yourself to wines from our house …
CZ: Hmmm … I don’t keep a list like that. Since I drink wine rather rarely, I always try new things when possible.
RB: If you had to choose: white, red or rosé?
CZ: Difficult. If I really had to choose, it would be red.
RB: Heavy or light?
CZ: The answer is much easier for me: easy.
RB: Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, USA or Australia?
CZ: When my gut decides, in a restaurant for example, the choice is usually Italian, but I don’t really have a preference.
RB: And last but not least: Why do you buy wine from the Albert Mathier & Sons wine family?
CZ: Out of curiosity and because I am curious to see if the wine delivers what the texts on the website promise. I should receive the first two bottles in the next few days.
