Maison Bercoula.

“Maison Bercoula” stands for wines with origin, character and attitude. Born from the interplay of terroir, craftsmanship and a clear vision, the house combines traditional Valais wine culture with a modern, precise signature.

The wines are rooted in prime locations around Miège – where the sun, poor soils and alpine climate create ideal conditions. Maison Bercoula sees itself as the guardian of these special origins and pursues the goal of making wines that reflect their landscape: honest, structured and timeless.

The name Bercoula is more than just a geographical reference. It symbolizes responsibility towards the vineyards, uncompromising quality and the desire to bring the Valais terroir to life in its most beautiful form.

The wines of Maison Bercoula.

The wines of Maison Bercoula stand for clear origin and genuine character. Grown in the best vineyards around Miège, characterized by sunshine, mineral soils and an alpine climate, they bring the Valais terroir precisely into the glass.

The focus is on local grape varieties such as Petite Arvine, Heida, Humagne Rouge, Pinot Noir and Syrah. Carefully pressed, elegant in style and authentic in expression – wines with depth, balance and personality.

“Maison Bercoula” was created by bringing together two worlds – and two personalities.
Urs Zweifel, rooted in Zurich, characterized by entrepreneurial thinking, clarity and a keen sense of quality, meets Amédée Mathier, deeply rooted in Valais, with decades of experience, a passion for local grape varieties and a keen sense of terroir.

What unites the two is the conviction that great wines can only be produced where origin, trust and shared values come together. When the opportunity arose to take over renowned vineyards in Miège, it quickly became clear that this project should not be realized alone, but together.

This is how Maison Bercoula was founded – based in Valais, supported by the Valais heart of Amédée Mathier and the Zurich spirit of Urs Zweifel. Together, they make wines that combine tradition and modernity, characterized by friendship, respect and the desire to bring out the best in the great vineyards of Valais.

Amédée Mathier.

Born in a vineyard, raised in a wine barrel – that’s roughly how you could describe Amédée. His heart beats for viticulture and winemaking. As a scion of one of the oldest wine families in Switzerland – the Mathier family has been in Salgesch since 1387 – he has dedicated himself entirely to viticulture.

Together with his family, he cultivates vineyards in the most beautiful east-west valley in the Alps and produces exquisite wines from them. With his keen sense for exceptional vineyards and his great passion, he stands for good wine.

Urs Zweifel.

From life in front of the screen to a place of work with a view of the most beautiful wine-growing regions around Zurich. Urs Zweifel decides to study wine science and become an oenologist.

He puts his analytical talent to good use:
