Valais.

There is evidence that vines were already cultivated in the canton of Valais between 800 and 600 BC. Today, there are more than 4800 hectares of vineyards in Switzerland’s largest wine region, which are cultivated by more than 16,000 small landowners, mostly on a part-time basis.

Valais has an average annual sunshine duration of 2090 hours with a precipitation of 600 to 800 mm. This corresponds to climatic conditions similar to Bordeaux (France).

The vineyards of the Albert Mathier & Sons wine family are located in Salgesch and its surroundings, in the Sierre/Siders region (Miège, Ollon, Sierre) and Martigny (Domaine de Ravoire).

Salgesch and surroundings.

Lean soils rich in limestone and slate, hot and dry summers, autumn sun and foehn, which drive the last sweetness into the grapes. In addition, passionate winemakers, demanding and environmentally friendly viticulture. These are the best conditions and guarantees for quality wines as they are produced in the Salgesch region.

Sierre region.

It was formed 13,000 years ago after a landslide from the Bernese Alps. Its solid structure was able to resist erosion by the Rhone.
In general, the nature of the soils is light, little clay, very stony and not deep. The dry and warm conditions make it difficult for the young vines to develop. Those who succeed provide grapes from which quality wines of the very best are made.
