Amédée Collection.

With the Amédée Collection, I present to you a selection of exceptional wines. This collection tells the story of my life, lived with and for wine.

I was born in the vineyard, grew up in the cellar and have dedicated my entire life to wine. The collection consists of six distinctive wines that have shaped my journey and my work at A. Mathier & Söhne. Inspired by my passion for wine, my experience and the constant pursuit of perfection.

Join me on a journey through the work of a lifetime.

Yours, Amédée Mathier

Grand Vin Amédée.

With the 2022 vintage, we dared to take the step: the first Grand Vin Amédée was born.
It matured for two years to reach perfection – the crowning achievement of our work. Before that, we had refined it patiently over many years.

The origin of the “Grand Amédée” lies in our relentless pursuit of excellence.. 2015 hatten wir die Idee, jede einzelne Traubenbeere von Hand zu vinifizieren. Dies war ein radikaler Schritt. Jede Traube wurde einzeln von Hand vom Rebstock genommen, jede Traubenbeere einzeln von der Traube getrennt und in den Gärbottich gelegt.

The result was an outstanding wine. However, the effort involved was immense and its price almost incalculable. We therefore initially decided to reserve the Amédée exclusively for friends of A. Mathier & Söhne. For nearly ten years, it was not commercially available. The rare bottles were given as gifts only – a true labour of love, without any economic ambition.

What followed was an uncompromising pursuit of perfection. The finest grapes from our most exceptional soils, vinified with deep expertise and the utmost care. Year after year, we searched for an even better wine.

Most recently, the University of Bordeaux supported us in this endeavour. With the university’s exceptional knowledge and drawing on the experience we have accumulated over the years, the Grand Vin Amédée was ultimately brought to life.

We are proud to now be able to share the result of this work with our customers.

Amphora.

The cradle of the amphora lies in Georgia. Curiosity and a spirit of experimentation led me to reflect on different methods of vinification. After a journey of discovery, I brought clay amphorae from Georgia – known as kvevris – back to Salgesch as a very special souvenir.

In Georgia, I discovered the natural and gentle vinification process in kvevris. The amphorae are buried in the ground, as their walls would otherwise be too thin to hold the wine. In the early 2010s, this was far from an easy undertaking.

Together with my team, we revived this nearly 8,000-year-old winemaking tradition here in the Valais, now recognised as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Driven by our curiosity, we also helped to shape the trend towards natural wines.

Domaine de Ravoire®.

The Domaine de Ravoire® was born from my dream of making the joy of wine accessible to others.

In the early 1990s, we acquired the Domaine de Ravoire®, a beautiful hillside vineyard in the winegrowing community of Leytron. What began with 1.5 hectares of vines has grown into a vineyard covering 7 hectares today.
The location is unique: the foehn wind, the intense Valais sunshine and the sparse, limestone-rich soils create a microclimate that gives the grapes strength, character and elegance. It is a terroir that cannot be copied, but can certainly be shared.

The vineyard of the Domaine de Ravoire® was one of the first to consistently implement the concept of shared ownership. For me, it is therefore the most beautiful vineyard in the world.
