Restaurant tips from Albert Mathier & Söhne AG – places we recommend or where our wines hold a special place.
#Kandersteg is located at the upper end of the Kandertal, nestled in the Bernese Oberland. The village is a starting point for hikes to Lake Oeschinen or across the Gemmi Pass – an alpine landscape that combines tranquility, mountain panoramas, and tradition.
The Waldhotel Doldenhorn is quietly located at the edge of the forest, surrounded by gardens and woodland – a place that harmoniously combines alpine nature and regional architecture.
Since 1976, the Doldenhorn has been owned by the Maeder family. What began as a small guesthouse has, over the decades, developed into a four-star superior hotel with a spa, gardens, and the second building “Ruedihus.” The founders, René Maeder, now mayor of Kandersteg, and his wife Anne Maeder, ran the house with tireless dedication and a strong sense of family.
Since January 1, 2021, their son Patric Maeder and his partner Riana Meyer have been managing the business. The official handover took place in 2022.
We supply the Waldhotel Doldenhorn – through our partner distributor Trachsel Getränke in Frutigen, under the management of Andreas Trachsel – with our Chardonnays, Fendants, and the characterful “Rhoneblut.” Recently, we raised a glass there with the anniversary edition No. 40 (“It’s a Family Affair”) to celebrate our long-standing partnership and shared success.
