As winemakers, we enjoy spending time in the Valais region – visiting restaurants and hotels that are not only close to our hearts but also important partners. This time, Amedee Mathier’s journey led to the Val d’Anniviers, up to St-Luc, to the Hotel Bella Tola & SPA – a valley to which we have a particularly strong traditional connection.
The historic grand hotel, built in 1859, is part of the Swiss Historic Hotels and was named Historic Hotel of the Year in 2001. What Claude Buchs created here together with his late wife Anne-Françoise – with passionate dedication and a love for creative detail – is far more than a hotel; it is a life’s work. A place of warmth, tranquility, and reflection. An alpine jewel with Victorian salons, the famous pink stucco ceiling in the breakfast room, originally restored rooms, and the Mountain Spa “L’Eau des Cimes” with views of four-thousand-meter peaks such as the Weisshorn, Zinalrothorn, and the Matterhorn.
Claude Buchs, a knowledgeable and passionate wine connoisseur, continues this shared project of the heart. During a wine tasting – including our Cornalin and the Amédée from the collection of the same name – it became clear what defines the Bella Tola: warm hospitality, a thoughtfully curated Valais wine list, and at the restaurant Chez Ida, a creative cuisine that combines seasonal Valais products with French finesse.
A Valais haven of well-being par excellence.🍷
